The art of pottery made its appearance very early in antiquity and it is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, forms of art of humanity, in particular based on findings from Greece!
In spite of its importance and its spread all over Greece and in particular to our island areas, there is no school, however, or even any official state or private entity that undertakes the instruction and practical training of those who are interested in occupying themselves with this craft.
It is true that for many professionals in this field, the learning of this craft took place in practical ways and usually from one generation to the next, for example, from father to son, etc.
Thus, in the context of this shortage of a training center for every interested party, our workshop is completely willing to provide, especially during the winter months when the pace of production slows down, the possibility for all those who wish to be initiated in the secrets of this craft and to practice it on the wheel.
This, of course, can take place whether someone visits our island, Sifnos, specifically for this purpose, or by combining this experience with a holiday on our island!
This is a service that is at an early stage, but in spite of this, it has matured enough among our future goals, and it is something that can be provided immediately after coming to an agreement with every interested party!
Besides, our workshop, with its occasional presence at fine arts schools abroad (for example, the University of Minnesota) but also at demonstration fairs (for example in Switzerland), has the means and the know-how to achieve this!
Let it be noted as well that two out of the approximately twenty professional potters on the island today have learned their craft through at least two years of training at our workshop!
